SHAKESPEARE'S LEGACY and SHAKESPEARE'S PEOPLE
This one-night only event is part of the Citywide Shakespeare 400 celebration.
SHAKESPEARE'S LEGACY is the American premiere of James Barrie's play which was written for the 300th anniversary of the Bard's death. The play features a newly married couple(played by Tim and Marcia Kazurinsky), Queen Elizabeth I (Mary Michell) and Mary, Queen of Scots (Barbara Zahora.)It was presented only once for a fundraiser for the YWCA to provide funds for the support of soldiers during World War I. The event was held at the Drury Lane Theater in London. Barrie had 25 copies of the play printed which he presented to organizers of the event and his friends. Two copies have been found in America--one at the Folger Library in Washington, DC and one at the University of Chicago where we were allowed to photograph the script.
Shakespeare's People is ShawChicago's tribute to the Bard featuring a compilation of some of his most memorable speeches and scenes from HAMLET, KING HENRY V, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, ROMEO AND JULIET and MACBETH. Actors are Melanie Keller, Richard Marlatt, Doug MacKechnie and Matthew Gall.
Ticket holders are invited to a dessert and wine reception with the actors following the performance
