Debra Cowan
With a rich alto voice that blends Celtic and Appalachian styles, Debra Cowan performs a cappella and with guitar in the great tradition of folksingers such as Joan Baez and Judy Collins. Her emotive style calls forth ghosts of the past but can also conjure a more modern, urban landscape. She bridges the old and new with an easy, engaging love of the songs -- she may start with a moving ballad such as "Rainbow," a profile of one woman's courage, and segue into "Johnny Be Fair," about a poor lass who can't marry anyone in town because, well, she's related to everyone. Debra can be found at the finest folk clubs and festivals in the US, Canada, England, Scotland and Ireland.
