Ars Lyrica presents Handel's Acis and Galatea
Ars Lyrica returns this season with a new production of Handel's charming pastoral opera Acis and Galatea. Written as courtly entertainment about the simplicity of rural life, the story depicts the tragic love affair between the nymph Galatea and the shepherd Acis, challenged by a long separation and the jealous monster Polyphemus. This semi-staged production is led by musical director Mathew Dirst and stage director Tara Faircloth and features performances by soprano Blair Doerge, countertenor Ryland Angel, tenors Derek Chester and Michael Kelly, and bass-baritone Timothy Jones.
