Anita MacDonald & Ben Miller - Traditional Cape Breton Music & Square Dance
Here's an opportunity to see and hear Anita MacDonald and Ben Miller, accompanied by Zakk Cormier (guitar)and Tyson Chen(piano)fresh from performing at the international Celtic Colours Festival on Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Come dance a Mabou or Boston square set, or just enjoy the fabulous music!
Anita MacDonald is a musician, dancer, and Gaelic singer from Little Narrows, Cape Breton. Anita's fiddle playing has a distinctive sound, influenced by the deep roots of her musical family and her teachers throughout the years. Her energetic style has put her in demand as a performer and teacher, across Cape Breton and beyond.
Ben Miller plays Scottish smallpipes, border pipes, and highland pipes, with a repertoire and style drawn mainly on the Gaelic traditions of western Scotland and the Canadian Maritimes, blended with a healthy dash of Irish tunes for good measure.
Deeply rooted in the bedrock of tradition stemming from the Scottish Gaelic dance-music of the Western Isles and the Canadian Maritimes, Ben and Anita pair driving dance tunes with expressive Gaelic airs and songs.
Workshops in Cape Breton Step Dance, Fiddle and Pipes, piano and guitar accompaniment will be offered for $15 per class the afternoon of the event. Contact Mary MacGillivray at Mmacgi6771@aol if interested.
