Art of Food 2012
Slow Food St. Louis, a non-profit organization dedicated to celebrating and supporting food traditions, is pleased to announce that their annual fundraiser, Art of Food, will be held on Saturday, September 22nd, from 6:00 to 10:00 pm, at Koken Art Factory (2500 Ohio Avenue, 63104). Proceeds from the event will benefit Slow Food St. Louis' production of over 30 educational events, films, and tastings each year, as well as their innovative Small Farm Biodiversity Micro-Grant program, which over the past four years has awarded approximately $30,000 to local, sustainable farmers to grow or raise more than 200 different heirloom varieties of produce and heritage breeds of animals.
Art of Food will showcase the area's top restaurants, serving up delectable hors d'oeuvres using as many fresh, local ingredients as possible, all prepared in the Slow Food tradition. Participating restaurants and chefs include Niche (Gerard Craft), Sidney Street Café (Kevin Nashan), Farmhaus (Kevin Willmann), Kaldi's Coffee (Tyler Zimmer), Local Harvest Café (Clara Moore), Companion Bakery (Josh Allen), The Crossing (Jim Fiala), Entre (John Perkins), Home Wine Kitchen (Cassy Vires), Kakao (Brian Pelletier), The Mad Tomato (Vito Racanelli), Salume Beddu (Mark Sanfilippo and Ben Poremba), Sanctuaria (Christopher Lee), Pint Size Bakery (Christy Augustin), and Kitchen Kulture (Chris Meyer and Mike Miller). A cash bar will also be available.
As in years past, "slow"-themed art by local artists and a multitude of gift baskets filled with specialty goodies from boutiques, wineries, and restaurants will be up for auction. In addition, we will have live music provided by The Resistance Organ Trio and local libations.
Tickets for the event are $30 for Slow Food members and $40 for non-members in advance; $40 for Slow Food members and $50 for non-members at the door. Event sponsors include Feast Magazine, Whole Foods Market, Eat Here St. Louis, Fair Shares, Schlafly Beer, Perennial Artisan Ales, and Clover Hill Interior Design. St. Louis Earth Day and Replenishing the Earth will be managing the recycling/composting efforts as Art of Food is a low-waste event.
