Pamela Rose - Accomplished jazz and blues vocalist
For years, accomplished San Francisco jazz vocalist Pamela Rose has thrilled audiences with her infectious brand of swinging jazz. Her rich, mellifluous vocals, electrifying stage presence and warm relationship with her audience have made her a local favorite with concert promoters and club owners.
"Just For a Thrill is a cup of slowly simmered jazz. Song after song features Rose at her finest. Intimate, at times hushed, deeply romantic...these are fully absorbed pearls and phrasings of a singer and composer who now knows she needs no improvement. And the band can't be beat!" -Bruce Kelly,Editor,San Francisco Magazine
Rose is not only an accomplished jazz and blues vocalist but a savvy student of the idiom. Now, for her fourth and latest release, the appropriately titled Just for a Thrill, Rose delivers a thoughtful and inspired blend of original songs, standard classics, and some undiscovered gems.
Originally from Southern California, Rose has been a staple of the San Francisco music scene for years. Her striking talent has taken her from lead singer of the legendary Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra to the stages of the Bay Areas top jazz venues, working with some of the deepest players on the West Coast.
Following Zasu Pitts, Pamela and Glenn assembled Side Pocket, complementing their vocals with a 5-piece combo designed primarily for private parties.
Challenging herself and expanding her horizons, Pamela sought a more intimate sound, leading to her collaboration with Nate Ginsberg for two recordings and many public performances. The first, "Jazzy Side of Blue" (1993), was nominated for a BAMMIE Award as best jazz CD. The second, "Every Time I'm With You" had the distinction of being featured in the Sharper Image catalog.... the only vocal LP offered.
Rose enticed some of the very best of these musicians to work with her on this release, including John R. Burr on piano, John Wiitala on bass, Jason Lewis on drums, Jeff Ervin and Charles McNeal on sax, Wayne De La Cruz and Tony Stead on Hammond B-3, and Danny Caron, who shares Roses jazz/blues sensibilities, on guitar.
But its Roses voice, honed and seasoned by countless live performances, and captured in the studio with all its soulfulness that drives Just for a Thrill. The first time you spin the album, it might be just for a thrill, but youll return again and again to savor the songs cooked up by Pamela Rose.
