The Sea and Cake + Matthew Friedberger at The Luminary

On October 28th, The Luminary welcomes The Sea and Cake to the Elevator Music Series. The Sea and Cake is a product of the fertile and active Chicago, IL music scene. The four members are all veteran musicians who share a common punk and rock background and numerous affiliations with incomparable bands like Tortoise, but have come together in this entity to uniquely blend Brazilian music of the late 1960's, African influenced guitar lines, and independent pop.

After a brief hiatus, the extensive 20 year career of The Sea and Cake has come to a crescendo with their latest release The Moonlight Butterfly. It's a new turn for the band marked by cinematic overtones, explorations in analog synths and a new boldness that boarders between intimate and distant. This ninth studio album is a testament to the longevity and consistency of a band who has such a clear artistic vision that their album covers have largely been done by band members.

Matthew Friedberger, the visionary frontman of The Fiery Furnaces will provide support.
