Modesto Briseno Septet - Trumpeter/flugelhornist's debut CD
Yes, he is the son of that Modesto Briseno! This third generation musician has been a long time fixture on the jazz scene as a sought after sideman. This year, however, Briseno ups the stakes with his debut CD as a bandleader. This seven piece band has the tight lyrical arrangements of a big band while retaining the smoothness of a smaller combo. Although Briseno has been compared to Chet Baker because of his ability to sing and play the trumpet his fat full bodied sweet intonation is more reminiscent of Roy Eldridge.
