Cecilia Corrigan: Great Party, Isn't It, Mom?
Due to popular and terrifying demand, Cecilia Corrigan returns to the ISSUE ballroom October 8th. This performance is a supernatural-thriller version of Corrigan's act at September 13th's sold out show Erased Architectures. EA featured three fantastic men: James Ilgenfritz, Elliott Sharp and Steve Buscemi, whose remains will certainly haunt the ballroom, either in physical or ectoplasmic form. Serving as Ms. Corrigan's yearly reminder of her eventual decay and death, the evening anticipates the premiere of Motherland, Corrigan's theatre and video-based narrative exploring the American electorate's psychotic mommy issues, and will screen the first two video installments of the piece. Motherland premieres live at ISSUE Project Room on December 3rd.
As if that wasn't scary enough, the show also marks the 30 day countdown from our national reckoning, so come enjoy what may be one of our last nights of free expression and gay-ety before the hammer falls. In addition to Corrigan's political and spiritually devastated "comedy," the floorshow will feature celebrity guests, (to be announced!). After the show there will be conspicuous consumption, dancing and mingling with the stars, all of which adds up to a "great party."
Cecilia Corrigan, 2016 ISSUE Artist in Residence, is an acclaimed post-internet poet whose work has evolved off the page and into performance. Her live shows blend poetry, monologue, drag, and comedy. She has published three books: True Beige (Trafficker Press, 2012,) Titanic, (&NOW/Northwestern University Press 2013, Plonsker Prize Winner, Flavorwires Top 50 Poetry Books of the Decade), and Cream (2016, Capricious Press, illustrated by Jocelyn Spaar). She has performed sold out shows at establishments such as the Duplex, La Mama, Dixon Place, Swiss Institute, Artists Space, and The Kitchen. In 2015, she was one of the NYPACs commissioned artists, presenting three original performances that year. That year she starred with Hari Nef and Alex Karpovsky in a short film, Crush, which she also co-wrote and co-produced. Her work has been featured in such publications as Interview Magazine, BOMB, The Observer, and Artforum. Her fiction and criticism have been published in Flash Art International, n+1, The Awl, Adult Magazine, and Joyland, among others. Her project, Motherland, will have its live premiere at ISSUE on December 3, and will be released as serialized videos by BOMB over the course of this fall. More at ceciliacorrigan.com
