Workshops at the Arizona Burlesque Festival
The Arizona Burlesque Festival is offering classes with burlesque stars from around the country on October 15! Join us for a day of fun, learning, and meeting new people. All levels are welcome! Save $25 by purchasing a full day pass for $60! Individual class prices are listed below
12:00-1:00 Struttin' with Gazella Galore
Learn to perfect one of the most necessary, and most often, under-developed tools in a showgirl's bag of tricks: the showgirl strut! In this class, former Las Vegas showgirl, Gazella Galore will talk about the mechanics of a basic showgirl pose and the showgirl walk with varying gaits and staging. She'll then demonstrate a short combo to tie it all together. Strut away from this class with the ability to begin incorporating more poise, grace, and a variety of walks and gaits that will fill time and space by stringing poses and choreography together. Wear comfortable clothing and heels you can strut in. $15
1:00-2:00 Slay Cabaret with Di Lovely
Let out that sassy and fierce R&B pop star! Round up your squad like you're about to film a girl band video! With a limited class duration, please arrive fairly stretched, warm, and ready to SLAY!! Class will start with a brief warm up, some jazz basics and struts across the floor. Learn a high energy choreographed piece to a fun pop song, and let that diva in you soar! It'll be hard to put out the fire once we're done! Level: Beginning - Intermediate; Attire: Comfortable, fitted clothing for movement. Flexible heels encouraged, but not required; Relative dance styles: Burlesque, Thrash Jazz, Jazz Funk, Heels $15
2:00-3:00 Intro to Intros- The art of Emceeing with Lili VonSchtupp
Whether you are an event emcee or a burlesque show host, it's your job and responsibility to understand the business end of being an emcee/host. Lili shares how to engage an audience without stealing the spotlight from others, how to keep the flow of the show or event, ways to create and find your own unique voice and stage persona, and the tools to keep in your toolbox so you are always prepared.$15
3:00-4:00 Kicks and Spins! In Burlesque? Oh my! with Coco Lectric
Did you ever wonder how to incorporate those awesome kicks and spins into your burlesque routine? Your instructor breaks it all down for you. This course is for performers with dance training who are wanting to up the ante in their routines with athletic, yet statuesque, poses, drops turns and kicks. The class includes an intensive stretch routine, bring a yoga mat if preferred. Wear clothing you can stretch in and wear knee covering if this is of particular concern. $20
4:00-5:00 Big Bad Boa with Coco Lectric
The feathers go flying in this fun review of classic boa technique with a twist. Learn to wear your boa with pride and become a boa wielding pro. Your instructor also teaches basic dance steps, turns and walks to accompany boa technique. The class includes a short dance combination. Wear comfortable clothing that you can stretch in. $20
Classes are held in the dance studios at Pima Community College West 2202 W. Anklam Rd. We'll send out a map ahead of time, but plan a little extra time to navigate the campus.
Cancellation Policies:
If your class is cancelled by the instructor, your money will be refunded to you as soon as possible. Tuition is otherwise non-refundable.
