Join the San Jose Symphonic Choir for our presentation of two joyful, celebratory pieces, Johann Sebastian Bach's beautiful Magnificat, and the Dettingen Te Deum by Georg Frideric Handel.
The Magnificat - the canticle of Mary, expressing her jubilation and humility on learning she will be the "Mother of God" - is the basis for many choral works by composers through the ages, and is the subject of many visual artists. Bach's Magnificat was written in Leipzig for the 1723 Christmas Vespers at St. Thomas Church where Bach had just been appointed Kantor.
Handel's Dettingen Te Deum was written in 1743 to commemorate a British military victory at the Battle of Dettingen, and to give joyful, public thanksgiving for the safe return of King George II - the last British monarch to personally lead his troops into battle.
We will be accompanied in these gorgeous Baroque works by the San Jose Baroque Orchestra.
Ticket refunds available only within 12 hours of purchase.
