HEATHER MASSE & JED WILSON
Heather, a Maine native, is well-known to audiences as a regular guest on the NPR radio show A Prairie Home Companion and as a member of the Billboard-charting folk supergroup, The Waylin Jennys. While shes one-third of that award-winning trio, Heather's latest albums have showcased her jazz vocals, a return to her roots. In fact, she credits her background in jazz as helping to shape her distinct approach to singing folk, pop and bluegrass.
The Phippsburg concert will feature Heather and Jed in a program that includes pieces from both sides of her career - folk and jazz, both originals and standards.
Heather has performed at hundreds of venues around the world, sharing the stage with the worlds most acclaimed pop, classical, and jazz acts, including Elvis Costello, Wynton Marsalis, Sheryl Crow, Renee Fleming, k.d. lang, Emmylou Harris, and the Boston Pops Orchestra. She has also performed with the renowned contemporary bluegrass band The Wayfaring Strangers, and toured as a featured vocalist with Mark OConnors Hot Swing.
In addition to her solo albums and multiple albums with The Waylin Jennys, in 2013 she released Lock My Heart, an album of jazz standards and originals with the legendary pianist, Dick Hyman. It has been on the Billboard charts since its release. Her latest recording, August Love Song, features Heather with trombone maverick Roswell Rudd, whom she met as a fellow guest on Keillors radio show.
Heather and Jed met while studying jazz at the New England Conservatory of Music and have been performing together for more than a decade. In addition to appearing and recording with Heather, Jed has recorded and toured with acclaimed jazz vocalist Dominique Eade.
The show will be performed in the historic 1802 Phippsburg Congregational Church.
