Through an enlightening hands-on exercise led by Janet Keeler, former Tampa Bay Times food editor and current USFSP professor, you will learn how to awaken your senses when writing about food. And writing about food often includes writing about life. This session will encourage you to think about your own "food story" and provide guidance on how to weave culinary experiences into memoir.
About the Instructor: Janet K. Keeler is a visiting assistant professor in department of Journalism and Media Studies at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. She is also the coordinator of the department's Graduate Food Writing and Photography Certificate program.. Keeler is a 35-year newspaper veteran and was until December 2014 the longtime food and travel editor at the Tampa Bay Times, where she worked for 22 years. Her professional newspaper work has been honored by the Association of Food Journalists, Florida Society of Newspaper Editors, the Society of Professional Journalists and the National Headliner Awards. In March 2015, she won the USFSP Chancellor's Award for Clinical Teaching at USFSP.
Keeler is the author of Cookielicious: 150 Fabulous Recipes to Bake and Share. She has an undergraduate journalism degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and a master's degree in journalism and media studies from USFSP.
