Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guests Brian Calvert & Chris Cannon
The Chuckanut Radio Hour is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donnelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included Alexander McCall Smith, Elizabeth George, J.A. Jance, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. The Radio Hour airs every Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday at 9pm on KMRE 102.3FM.

This isn't an invasion, it's an intervention. From the country that brought you toques and Justin Bieber comes a plan to restore America to its former glory. The US political system increasingly resembles an all-chimp revue of Cats, and its citizens are looking for a new leader. That leader is Canada.

After launching their campaign on YouTube to 700,000 hits, and interviews with CNN and the Huffington Post, the leaders of the Canada Party here unveil their platform for US presidency. Their promises: Oil pipelines will carry maple syrup, so if there's a spill, at least the animals will be tasty. The phrase "job creators" will be changed to "job creationists," and they will be given seven days to actually create some. Corners will be installed in the Oval Office, and timeouts given to Congressmen who can't play nice. The Constitution will be amended to address hockey issues.

America, But Better combines the doctrine of American exceptionalism with a dose of Canadian humility and common sense. Covering everything from economic policy to gay rights to waterboarding, this manifesto of the Canada Party offers a helping hand to its southern neighbors before Americans begin chanting, "Yes We Canada."

Chris Cannon is the author of four books and hundreds of articles in magazines such as Rolling Stone, Men's Journal, and the Tyee. A former US Marine Corps sergeant, Chris served in the Presidential honor guard and in the intelligence and counterterrorism fields. He now teaches cultural criticism at the University of British Columbia. He lives in Vancouver, BC.

Brian Calvert has written, acted, produced, directed or edited more than fifty short films and five multi-media (live and video) stage shows. He is co-creator of the online sketch comedy groups ChurchofJerks.com and VILLAGEiDiOT.ca. Brian completed much of his schooling in Sarnia, Ontario, border city to Port Huron, Michigan. He now lives in Vancouver, BC.
