GHOSTS: MANIFESTATIONS OF MUSIC AND STORY
Classical violin music and suspenseful storytelling combine for a special evening of ghostly entertainment
Ghosts: Manifestations of Music and Story will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in the Linen District. Doors at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m. Bar service will be available prior to the show but will close promptly at 8. $10 advance, $15 at the door; advance tickets available online at brownpapertickets.com. All ages. Plenty of free, off-street parking is available at the Linen Building. Classical violinist Jennifer Dunn and Daniel Bishop, The Storyteller share the stage for an evening of ghostly entertainment. Be mesmerized as ghosts, devils and specters of the night materialize in music and story!
As Dunn plays the suspenseful music of Giuseppe Tartini, Heinrich Biber, Johann Sebastian Bach and others, Bishop spins traditionally styled tales of fear adapted from ancient myth, classic literature and urban legends. What better way to celebrate the season of Halloween than a night of haunting music and scary stories?
Jennifer Dunn is a concert violinist who grew up playing the violin. Her first teachers were Judy Call and the late Julienne Slaughter. As a teenager, she won first place in the youth solo competition and soloed with the Magic Valley Symphony. Dunn attended Boise State University and the University of Utah, where she completed her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and Music History. She received more training at the College of Idaho, where she studied with Geoffrey Trabichoff. Dunn attended the Park City Music Festival Young Artist Institute, where she participated in master classes by renowned violinists and teachers Glenn Dicterow and Charles Castleman.
Dunn has played with the New Music Ensemble, the Mt. Olympus String Quartet, Crimson Chamber Orchestra, the Langroise Trio, the C of I Sinfonia, the Magic Valley Youth Symphony, the Treasure Valley Symphony, the Darkwood Consort, the Hymns of Thanksgiving Orchestra, the Utah Philharmonia, and the Boise Philharmonic. She has also been featured on Boise State Public Radio, on Robyn Wells' CD "Hymns, Songs and Spirituals," has given numerous solo and chamber music recitals and is currently a member of the piano trio Trebelle. Her many awards include the Idaho Music Club String Scholarship Competition, the BSU Concerto/Aria Competition, the University of Utah Concerto Competition, and she was the winner of the American Mothers National Violin Competition. She is married to Dave Dunn, and they have three children.
Daniel Bishop, The Storyteller (danielbishopthestoryteller.com) has been on the professional stage of storytelling for 12 years. But Bishop has been spinning whoppers since he could talk. Trained in theatre at Utah State University and taught the art of storytelling by the master storyteller Dr. David Sidwell, Bishop has taken his craft from folk festival to the classroom, from stage to campfire. He has toured with the Dakota Assemblies and National School Assemblies, is a member of the Utah Storytelling Guild and is a Sponsored Artist for National Storytelling Network. Bishop has told stories from the Canadian border to the Mexican border, from Minnesota to California. His favorite place to perform is around the backyard fire pit with his wife and two children. And as Bishop says, "Let me bring the campfire to you."
