Anais Mitchell
Vermont singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell is strikingly articulate, with an insatiable intellect, a voice that is simultaneously innocent and knowing, and a beautiful face that is filled with light. Her path as a musician has been unique. She hadn't even embraced the career of folksinger when she was awarded with the genre's most coveted recognition, the New Folk Award at Kerrville Folk Festival (2003). With each successive album, Anais has tried something entirely fresh. Bold innovation doesn't always win friends in the music world, but Anais's magic carpet is so appealinga place of sensuality, enlightenment, fearlessnessthat she has an impressive contingent riding with her: Ani DiFranco, who signed Anais to her Righteous Babe label and released The Brightness (2007); Greg Brown, who sings the part of Hades in Anais's folk opera Hadestown (2010), and Rolling Stone Magazine, which gave her new concept album, written from the perspective of a young man, Four Stars and called it "already one of the albums of 2012." We are delighted to be presenting Anais this evening with her full band, fresh from the mainstage at the Ottawa Folk Festival.
