The Four Freshmen
The longest continually performing group, the original Four Freshmen began singing in 1948 and had a profound influence on American jazz and pop singing. Their first hit single, "It's a Blue World" was followed by big hits, "Day By Day" and "Graduation Day." They inspired 1960s groups from The Lettermen to The Beach Boys, to The Mamas and the Papas, as well as the '70s Manhattan Transfer. The Four Freshmen have undergone 22 lineup changes and while the current musicians were not born when the group began, their sound remains freshly intact. Each musician plays at least one instrument in addition to singing.
