BIO AND EVENT INFORMATION:
The program will be a discussion of Vent Silencer Application and Design, for various applications including Natural Gas Compressor Station Blowdowns and Plant Steam and Compressed Air/Gasses Safety Valves led by John F. Hawkins, Jr., P.E.
John is a Licensed Professional Engineer, Louisiana License, with over 40 years experience in the design, development and application of equipment to reduce the level of flow borne noises. These include stationary, reciprocating and turbine intake and exhaust, high pressure gasses and steam relief valves, industrial fans and blowers, off highway vehicles, heavy duty trucks and busses as well as transit busses. He is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and currently works from a home office, in Longview, as Manager of Engineering for Powertherm Co. Inc. in Houston. John was formerly National Sales Manager / Special Projects Engineer for GT Exhaust Systems, Inc., of Lincoln Nebraska and prior to that, Manager of Engineering for Maxim Silencer Products at Beaird Industries in Shreveport. In addition to this, he has practiced as an independent consultant conducting noise surveys for clients such as Dana Corporation, and design of special marine silencers for Goldman-Sachs, as well as specializing in industrial accident reconstruction and forensic engineering for a number of firms. He has been an ASME Member since 1974 and is currently Advisor to the District Leader of District E, after being District Leader from 2005 - 2010. He was Secretary of East Texas Sub-Section. He also has served in every office for the ArkLaTex Section of ASME. He was a member of the ASME Region X Operating Board (Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas & Mexico) and an ASME Certified Trainer. As an SAE member, he served on the Heavy Duty Exhaust Emissions Standards Committee. Active Member of Electric Generating Systems Assoc. (EGSA), chaired the Technical Codes and Standards Committee, and currently working with Task Group to develop standards for Engine Exhaust Silencers.
John and his wife, Lessie currently live in Longview Texas where he was formerly with Stemco Truck Products as Chief Engineer for their exhaust products. He continues to be an active member of the Mobberly Baptist Church where he is with the Orchestra and Choir.
