Harlem9 presents 48 HOUR IN HARLEM a twist on the traditional 24- hour play festival. This event marks the 2nd year of the collaborative Harlem9, bringing together 6 playwrights, 6 directors, and 18 actors to re-conceive classic plays from the African Diaspora over the course of one weekend in Harlem.
48 HOURS IN HARLEM culminates in a final presentation on Sunday, August 26, 2012.
The 6 playwrights Kevin R. Free, Marcus Gardley, Dominic Taylor, France-Luce Benson, Christine Jean Chambers, and Zoey Martinson will each be re-conceiving from one of the following plays: The Amen Corner by James Baldwin, Topdog/Underdog by Suzan Lori-Parks, A Soldier's Play by Charles Fuller, Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage, and Diary of a Mad Black Woman by Tyler Perry. Directors Reginald Douglas, Kent Gash, Axel Avin Jr., Ebony Golden, Patricia McGregor, and Seret Scott will each direct one of the new 10-minute plays.
