Enlightened Piano Radio Live In Phoenix!
What is Enlightened Piano Radio? We're an online radio station and artist co-op, with a vision to promote today's composers and performers of original "piano based" music. Boasting nearly 150 pianists worldwide on our roster, EPR is proud to be a home to a good number of artists who compose music for film and television, as well as touring musicians who work both independently and in ensembles. The goal for Enlightened Piano Radio is to provide a number of services to the public, including educational workshops and retreats, concert performances, and our streaming radio station that is accessible 24/7.
Enlightened Piano concerts consist of three pianists from our roster, from various locations, who work together to create a show that's refreshing and unique. One never knows for sure what they'll encounter at an EPR concert, as the musicians always vary in their backgrounds and styles. Classical piano, jazz, pop, and contemporary styles can all be found at an EPR show. Performances are held in a round robin style, as each performer takes turns telling a story about the original song they are about to play. There's audience interaction, comedy, door prizes, and an "improvisation round." Suggestions are taken from the audience to create piano pieces, and our artists compose songs on the spot based on those suggestions. This part of the show gets really interesting, and the final result is a performance that is full of laughter, great music, and great times for all who experience it!
Enlightened Piano Concerts have been held around the world, including Germany, Italy, Ireland, and North America, including performances at Carnegie Hall and the Place Des Arts in Montreal Canada. Performances have been very well received in a number of opera houses and art museums around the US, as well as concert halls, churches, and jazz clubs. New Orleans, Minneapolis, Seattle, St. Louis, Nashville, Boston, Kansas City and Sacramento have all seen EPR performances. We're excited to have the opportunity to perform in Phoenix AZ!
The EPR concert being held at Esperanza Lutheran Church will feature pianists Louis Colaiannia (Denver CO), Greg Starr (Seattle WA), and Donovan Johnson (Omaha NE). Louis Colaiannia is a jazzy pianist with a heavy contemporary musical style, is a master of classical piano, and an accomplished songwriter and performer. He holds a Mozart award for his contributions to music, and and his latest releases show his wide diversity, breaking into the contemporary jazz and "chill" realms. His songs have been described as being "Stunning in their power and beauty." Greg Starr composes in a more classical style, which makes sense - he comes from a lineage of pianists that go back to Beethoven. In the past he worked as the transcriber for Milli Vanilli's infamous debut album, and performed onstage with Steve Allen. He's enjoyed a long career in writing and producing music for numerous clients as well, including Wisconsin Public Television, The Library Of Congress, The Lutheran Brotherhood, and The Hal Leonard Corporation. Donovan Johnson has a style that blends country/honky tonk styles with a contemporary pop feel. As the founder of Enlightened Piano Radio, he travels and performs for audiences worldwide, as well as locally where he has an annual concert series in Omaha NE. The concert series signature performance is the annual "The Music Of Vince Guaraldi and the Peanuts" show on Thanksgiving weekend.
All three artists have been nominated for numerous awards, received numerous awards, released multiple albums, toured extensively, and entertained thousands of faces. Their music can be found on Pandora radio, Spotify, Amazon, ITunes, and many other websites. Combined, these artists have worked face to face with such renowned entertainers as Will Ackerman, Steve Oliver, Danny Wright, Liz Story, and even Edgar Winter.
