An Evening of Saw, Song and Spoken Word
A New International invite you to join them for an evening of words, songs and saw at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh. Joining them will be musical saw player Edgar Guerreiro and poet Rachel McCrum.
Doors at 8pm, music starts soon afterwards.
Rachel McCrum has performed her distinctive, lyrical poetry in Scotland, Montreal, Haiti, South Africa, Greece, Northern Ireland, and at Latitude and Wickerman Festivals. In Scotland, she has fronted poetry nights Inky Fingers and Blind Poetics, was a founding member of SHIFT/ Poetry Collective, and was the Broad of Rally and Broad (The Hot List 100 #12 in 2015). She won the Callum MacDonald Award for her first pamphlet 'The Glassblower Dances' in 2012; was the first ever BBC Scotland Poet In Residence in 2015 and has been awarded a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship in 2016. She is currently working on her first collection, due out with Freight Books in 2017. She likes red wine, rollies and macaroni pies.
Edgar Guerreiro aka The Saw Guy is a street performer and musician, who can be seen playing on the streets of Scotland. The eerie sound of the musical saw captivates and intrigues audiences, as he recreates beautiful melodies in a very peculiar way.
A New International: Lush, poetic, bittersweet romanticism; an evocative mixture of cinematic strings, circus lights, carnival and cabaret, music hall, gypsy, chanson, a little bit of folk, a little bit of flamenco, yet with pop at its beating heart - welcome to the world of Glasgows finest, A New International. Jacques Brel meets Ennio Morricone in Barcelona 1937. Lyrics by George Orwell. Craig Smillie (Glad Café) via Ricky Ross.
