ACHILLES IN SPARTA
Achilles in Sparta by Sharr White is being directed by Prof. Carlos-Manuel Chavarria, who is making his directorial debut since his arrival in the fall 2014.
A tragedy has befallen a great city. A country girds for war. Helen, the national figurehead of beauty and hope, has been abducted from Sparta, and its young men and womenthose most likely to do the fighting, and mourningready themselves for struggle.
ACHILLES IN SPARTA uses short, highly theatrical scenes and monologues to tell the story of a nation marching towards inevitable conflict and the fall of a hero.
With an ensemble of 10 students from Contra Costa College ACHILLES IN SPARTA unfolds as storytelling, using contemporary language, body movement, puppetry, and devising techniques to create a highly theatrical experience.
This show is for the whole family, although not recommended for anyone under 10 years old.
