Grey Matter with Irene Tu, Torio Van Grol & Kaseem Bentley
Grey Matter showcases the absolute best alt-comedians in the land. Our October edition finds us at The Back Room in Berkeley, which is featuring comedy for the first time. This is historic! The evening's braintrust will be Irene Tu, Torio Van Grol, Kaseem Bentley, plus some special guests. Added bonus: BYOB. Bring your favorite beverage. It's the right thing to do.
Kaseem Bentley was named SF Weekly Best of Award Winner for "Racial Humor You Don't Feel Guilty Laughing At" and one of the Bay Area's Top 5 Comedians to Watch by the San Jose Mercury News and Kaseem Bentley is an African American insult comic from San Francisco. Growing up with his 'hardcore class clown' father and mom that was like a tough Claire Huxtable Kaseem developed his no-holds-barred comedic style that made friends and co-workers always laugh. After years of procrastinating he finally tried stand up in 2006 and has been steadily making a name for himself in the Bay Area. Known as the "The funniest comic at the worst show" he works at works at the SF Punchline, Cobb's, and all around the bay.
Irene Tu is a San Francisco based stand-up comedian, writer, and actor. In 2016, she was named one of the Bay Areas 11 Best Stand Up Comedians by the SFist and one of 20 Women to Watch by KQED. She has been featured in numerous comedy festivals including SF Sketchfest, Limestone Comedy Festival, and Crom Comedy Festival. Irene hosts several popular shows in the Bay Area: Man Haters, Hysteria, The Mission Position, Laugh Function and Millennials Ruin Everything (they do). You can follow her @irene_tu. irenetu.com
Torio Van Grol was raised by the Bay Area comedy scene. but recently relocated to Los Angeles in search of new neighborhoods to gentrify. In 2016, he was listed as one of the Bay Area's best stand-up comedians by SFist. He won the title, "Best Joke of 2015" by the award-winning SF blog Courting Comedy. Torio has performed at SF Sketchfest for the past two years, as well as many other comedy festivals. Torio was named "One of The Bay Area's 11 Best Stand-up Comedians of 2016" by SFist.
