SDC Sardinian Dinner
For those of you who don't know, our beloved friend (and one of the partners at Half Acre Beer Company) Maurizio is Italian. Like, straight up ITALIAN. He's got the accent and everything. And he's always trying to get us to cook the Italian food of his dreams -- which is the food of Sardinia, where he is from.
He didnt need to twist our arm. We love the food of Italy! (So much so, that we are going there tomorrow as delegates of Slow Foods Terra Madre!) Planning this menu wasn't easy. So many ideas, it was hard to choose just four dishes. We feel good about the results and hope you can join us for the plated coursed out meal at Half Acre Tap Room on Monday October 10th. Bonus: unlimited HA beer to be paired with each course.
The food of Sardinia is simple. The flavors, complex. Ricotta is everywhere, meats reign supreme, and desserts are uncomplicated and delicious. Wild fennel with bitter greens and ricotta panada (essentially an Italian empanada) starts us off. A humble course of charred octopus with celery, potatoes, and parsley is anything but -- this dish is full flavored awesome.
No Italian menu would be complete without pasta. The main course of malloreddus pasta with wild boar ragu and pecorino is as traditional and heavenly as it gets. And sebadas (which sounds like bad ass and it is) are little fried dough pillows filled with pecorino and honey which will bring you much happiness. You guys gotta eat this food. Maurizio says so!
