TYLERS SUITE: WORKING TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT BULLYING
The New Orleans Symphony Chorus will present the regional premier of Tylers Suite at Temple Sinai at 2:30 PM on Sunday, October 23, 2016. Accompanying them are the New Orleans Gay Mens Chorus and the Delgado Community College Concert Choir. Soloists are Kate Withrow, violin, Carmen Leerstang, piano. Also on the program are Eric Whitacre's Five Hebrew Love Songs and Moses Hogan's I Am His Child.
Tylers Suite is a new and lauded nine-piece choral movement dedicated to the memory of Tyler Clementi, a talented young musician who died by suicide after being bullied by his roommate during his first weeks of college. Created under the leadership of Composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin) and Dr. Timothy Seelig (Conductor/Artistic Director of the San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus), Tylers Suite explores the voices and experiences of Tyler and his family through the music of nine of todays top composers, including Ann Hampton Callaway and Stephen Schwartz.
Tyler's mother Jane Clementi will attend the performance. She will speak about Tyler, her and her family's experience and the foundation they established in his memory that fights for internet safety and to protect all children from bullying, especially online forms of bullying. While we can't change the past we can work to change the future.
