GODSPELL
NOTE: IF TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT PLEASE CALL THE BOX OFFICE (570)208-5825 This immensely successful rock opera needs little introduction, but when it was first produced on Broadway in 1971 it broke new ground in its stage treatment of the historical Jesus Christ. Featuring music and lyrics by three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, and Children of Eden) and based on visionary playwright John-Michael Tebelak's book, Godspell is a selection of musical parables from The Gospel According to St. Matthew. "Godspell" chronicles the last days of Jesus, and includes dramatized versions of several well-known parables. And yet it is something more - a religious experience, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of the family of man. The cast, a group of artists, musicians, and music lovers, come together under the sky of a music festival and improvise scenery and costumes and use many well-known theatrical devices, and varied musical styles to interpret one of humanity's greatest events.
