September Seminar & Social: AFP Central Ontario Charting Your Career Path
AFP Central Ontario presents a facilitated discussion with a panel of fundraising and philanthropy professionals from varied specialties and organizations.

How do you turn an interest in fundraising into a career in philanthropy?  What skills are the most important to develop?  What are employers looking for?  And how do you set yourself up for success over the longer term?

Panelists will discuss their career paths, education, certification and resume development.  The goal will be to help you take a conscious approach to developing your toolkit, resume and network.

The presentation will be followed by an informal social networking event at Hooligans in downtown Barrie.

Panelists:

Tom Horlor, partner at Hallett Horlor Inc.

Dale Biddell, Chief Executive Officer, United Way Simcoe Muskoka
....In a career almost entirely spent in the nonprofit sector Dale has experience in executive, consulting and community-leadership roles.  She began an independent consulting practice in 1996 following development and advancement roles in higher education, community services and both the federal and provincial governments.

Adept at organizational review and transformation; strategy and human resource planning; and board development and governance - she is an advocate for collaboration and solving social issues through the intersection of the private, public and nonprofit sectors.

She completed a two-year restructure of the United Way in the South Georgian Bay region that culminated in a union with the larger United Way Greater Simcoe County, where she became the interim Chief Executive Officer in 2014 and was permanently appointed in 2015. Since joining United Way she has undertaken an organizational restructure and developed a new business model with an aligned three-year growth strategy. She initiated and has completed a collaborative process that has welcomed the District of Muskoka creating a regional United Way.

In a volunteer capacity, she has served on numerous boards, in the children and youth sector, health, education, sport and recreation and social services and in particular has a passion for childrens mental health. She served for nine years, including the Presidents role, on the Board of Directors for Kinark Child and Family Services, a provincial childrens mental health agency. She also served as a Director and Chair of Major Gifts for the Kinark Foundation.

Dale has established four charitable foundations, and earned an M.A. in Philanthropy and Development from St. Marys University, MN.

Katelyn Lees, Associate Manager, Philanthropy and Community Engagement at Barrie Public Library
