Heralded as the pre-eminent improvising violinist of his generation, Zach Brock is an award-winning jazz violinist and composer whose music draws on the traditions of jazz, classical, world, and popular music. The Chicago Tribune recognized Zachs recent recording Perpetuity as one of its top ten jazz recordings of 2014 and Downbeat Magazines 61st Annual Critics Poll named Zach its Rising Star Violinist of 2013. Zachs acclaim as a bandleader has grown through appearances at venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York City and festivals such as Tudo é Jazz in Ouro Preto, Brazil. The reputation of Zach as a master musician and sideman has spread through collaborations with legendary bassist Stanley Clarke, Grammy-award-winning supergroup Snarky Puppy, and contemporary jazz masters Phil Markowitz and Dave Liebman. In 2012 Zach became the first violinist ever to record for Criss Cross Records in its 32- year history.
PHIL MARKOWITZ A Veteran of the bands of Chet Baker, PHIL MARKOWITZ is a thirty plus year veteran of the International Jazz scene. His original compositions range from hard-cutting chromaticism to the most lyrical post-romantic ballads. Inventive, virtuosic, and accessible, Markowitz presents a forward-looking vision for contemporary music. Phils notoriety as a composer came in the late 1970s when he was playing in a NYC club with legendary jazz harmonica player, Toots Thielemans As they were playing Phils composition, Sno Peas, pianist Bill Evans walked in, loved the song, and asked Toots to bring it to their upcoming recording session. Evans and Thielemans subsequent recording of Sno Peas on the classic Grammy-nominated album, Affinity, put Markowitz on the map as a venerable jazz composer.
