THIS IS AN OFFICIAL BROOKLYN BOOK FESTIVAL BOOKENDS EVENT
Imagine starting your yoga class with the wise words of your instructor, who calls out a pose or two, and the pose is followed by a live poem read by a Brooklyn Book Festival poet. Yoga & Poetry is a new initiative of the Brooklyn Public Library that features yoga instruction paired with the added joy of live poetry. The series will curate major living poets, who will appear onsite to read their work. This combination creates an atmosphere of wakefulness that makes yoga and poetry the quintessential way to do both. During less rigorous poses, each of three or four poets are called to read their work on a particular theme which the session will be curated around.
Poets featured on the 18th are Yusef Komunyakaa (pictured center) and Cynthia Cruz (pictured right).
