Bee-friendly Habitat Gardening with Jaime Pawelek
Jaime Pawelek, a native bee expert and garden designer, will speak about the 1,600 species of native bees that make California home. She will start by talking about the importance of pollinators, then give a brief overview of their biology and ecology, including info on their lifecycle and nesting needs. She will also profile some of the most common native bees visiting urban gardens and their very favorite plants. Jaime will also provide info on how to start your own bee garden to encourage these important pollinators to visit your own home habitat.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Jaime Pawelek, owner of Wild Bee Garden Design, has been studying native bees for over 10 years. She worked in the Urban Bee Lab at UC Berkeley for several years where she learned about the close relationships of bees and plants. She now has her own garden design company where she helps homeowners and businesses create valuable pollinator habitats, full of native and drought tolerant plants. She also continues native bee studies with the San Francisco Bee Cause and other native bee researchers, where she assists them with bee identification.
