About the Artists:

Playing since age seven, Kenan Adnawi is a Syrian oud virtuoso, who studied under Azerbaijani oud master, Askar Ali Akbar at the High Music Institute of Damascus in 2003. In 2009, he won first place in the International Oud Competition in Beirut. Adnawi is driven by a passion for creating new music and experimental rhythms and sounds by incorporating novel techniques, scales and innovating on ideas from other world music traditions. This interest in world music has led to wide-ranging collaborations with artists from around the world and different musical backgrounds. Adnawi has toured with Marcel Khalife and the Al-Mayadeen Ensemble in Austria, Lebanon, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates. He has also performed with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Theater of Champs-Elysees in Paris, La Scala in Milan and Teatro Massimo in Palermo. He is familiar to Alwan audiences, previoulsy performing with Sonia MBarek in 2013, a solo concert in 2014 and with the Alfaia Quartet in 2015. To listen to Kenan Adnawi, please click here.

Naseem AlAtrash is a globally acclaimed Palestinian cellist and a classically trained musician and improviser in diverse styles. Alatrash has earned a reputation for fearlessly broadening the horizons of the cello on the world stage. Following his studies at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music in Ramallah, AlAtrash was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. There, he studied with Eugene Friesen, Owen Young, Rob Thomas, and Simon Shaheen and earned the highest distinctions for his cello performances.\

Tony Barhoum is a young Qanun player attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston on the Presidential Scholarship. In 2015, he performed at the Berklee Middle Eastern Festival.
