Saint Georges Blues
A second chance at love collides with unlikely events to create a national music festival in a small country town.
Saint Georges Blues is a contemporary comedy-drama that deals with small town personalities confronted by the new people bringing change to a small Chesapeake and Delaware Canal town. The protagonist, Marge, a long time resident of Saint Georges wants to own the only business in town, Saint Georges Country Store. Its up for sale. Divorced with two grown kids, and an elderly aunt with Alzheimers, Marge cant afford it. Joe, a Delaware Bay river boat pilot, is in love with Marge. He has the bucks but is Marge willing to take a chance on marriage after her 20 year marriage and a rough divorce? Joe is very persuasive and has big plans. She accepts. Everything is looking great and then fate steps in.
This new play by Earl Lewin, produced by BC Productions, will have its world premier at Church Hill Theatre September 29 through October 9, 2016. The play, a true story, is a tribute to Joe Michini and his wife Marge and to their success, working with Gary Cogdell and Gene Fontana, in bringing Rhythm and Blues to Saint Georges Country Store. It follows the love story, events, and tragedy that turned a country store into a recognized East Coast music venue and created a nationally recognized yearly Rhythm and Blues Festival in a Chesapeake and Delaware Canal town.
Performance starts at 7:30 pm. Doors will open at 6:45pm. A cash bar will be available.
This organization is supported, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on www.DelawareScene.com.
