1926 VAUDEVILLIAN COMEDY IRISH WAKE
A comedy melodrama dinner show set in Asheville in 1926 is set around an open-casket wake for the great Dr. E.W. Grove (who lies in state in the casket) This Irish wake is hosted by five vaudevillian friends who together with guests lament, sing, reminisce, toast, dance, perform magic tricks and grow quiet tipsy. This vaudeville full of charming slapstick, musical and dance performances, absurdities, soliloquy and poetry and melodramatic supernatural comedy.
THE IMMERSION Guests attend a traditional IRISH open casket wake hosted at Lex 18 for Dr. E.W. Grove. The extraordinary Dr. Grove, creator of the Tasteless Quinine Company, which he established in Asheville, North Carolina in 1900 had many interest in Asheville, including the famous Battery Hotel, Grove Arcade and Grove Park Inn. With great sadness, his vaudevillian friends found Dr. Grove presumed dead in his room at the Battery Hotel.
Hearts filled with sadness for the passing and joy with the knowledge of this great man, Grove's friends bring forth their stories, toasts, songs and dance, ever-increasingly dramatized with their growing tipsiness. Unbeknownst to friends gathered at hand Dr. Grove is all but dead and comic absurdities ensue with each passing toast, speech, song, dance until the not an IRISH toast is left, and then pandemonium ensues!

DRESS There is one guest requirement which is to dress UP for this very special dinner. Vintage costumes in the style of the 1920s and 1930s add a wonderful element of authenticity for everyone to enjoy. Given this is an IRISH WAKE we suggest darker clothing. If your closet does not offer these options, we do ask our diners to dress semi formal; jacket and tie for men and cocktail attire for women. A week prior, guests will receive an emailed invitation providing directions and information detailing the evening's event.
