Blazing Saddles
Join us on Saturday, September 10 at 7 pm a we pay tribute to the late Gene Wilder, with the screening of Mel Brooks' hysterically irreverent "Blazing Saddles". Joining Wilder in this 1974 comedy is Cleavon Little, Slim Pickens, Harvey Korman, Madeline Kahn and so many more, including a few cameos by Mel Brooks himself.
Directed and co-written by Mel Brooks, "Blazing Saddles" was the 2nd teaming of Gene and Mel; their celebrated collaboration kicked off with "The Producers" in 1967 for which Wilder was garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Wilder plays "Jim" the town drunk/Waco Kid in this raucous parody of the Western film genre. Greedy land developer, Hedley Lamarr (Harvey Korman) greases palms of the insane governor (Mel Brooks) to induce his help to snatch land to build Hedley's railroad. A key piece of land, Rock Ridge, is inhabited by a flock of Johnsons, all deeply entrenched in the town. The governor tries to help Hedley rid himself of the townspeople; first, he appoints black sheriff Bart (Cleavon Little) for Rock Ridge. Next, Hedley sics Lili von Shtupp (Madeline Kahn) on Bart. With the help of his sidekick, The Waco Kid, Bart fights for his new town. But, the politicos (and the WB studio) fight back.
Tickets are $7.00 General Admission and available online and at the theater box office prior to the show. This film is rated "R", and has a run time of an hour and 33 minutes.
