Event
Islam in the Public Square
Muslim Americans have been part and parcel of the American narrative since the countrys foundation. They form a diverse group of individuals, cultures, languages and practices. They are your everyday neighbors - from teachers to cab drivers to baristas to doctors. Yet, one out of two Americans hold negative views of Muslims and Islam. Much of that perspective has to do with ascribing collective guilt on a whole community due to acts committed by a very few in the name of Islam. Hateful rhetoric by some in a polarized election season does not help matters either. A group of Muslim leaders and organizations, including MAPS and IMAN, will be hosting a day of reflection and discussion on Islam, Muslims, attitudes towards terrorism, violence, hate and bigotry. They will be joined by various inter-faith groups and will explore ways to stand together for peace and justice. Please join us for this event. Speakers include: Jawad Khaki,Mahmood Khadeer, Arsalan Bukhar, and Mark Markuly
