"LIPNIK Y ARIAS" TEAM UP TO CELEBRATE PANGEA MILESTONE
The alt-cabaret divas Joey Arias and Carol Lipnik headline a special one-night-only party-performance at Pangea, 178 Second Avenue, on Saturday September 10, starting at 8pm. This is the night Pangea, the Downtown oasis for food, drink and cutting edge cabaret, celebrates its 30th anniversary in lavish style.
The special double-decker night of excitement, Lipnik y Arias, is followed by a champagne reception for ticket holders. The music charge is $30 and includes post-show champagne for toasts.
Hosted by Pangeas owners Stephen Shanaghan and Arnoldo Caballero y Cespedes,Lipnik y Arias celebrates Pangeas years as a magnet for downtown scene-makers and trendsetters -- first as Spaghetteria on East 7th Street starting in 1986, then as Pangea at its present location on Second Avenue between 11th & 12th Streets.
Since January 2015 Pangea has been programming cabaret and jazz performances in its jewel-box showroom. The New York Times recently called it a bohemian oasis not unlike the fabled Maxs Kansas City from days gone by, showcasing some of the brightest lights of alt-cabaret.
With Matt Kanelos mixing it up on piano, Lipnik y Arias will present adjoining musical sets packed with their favorites. During the show these extravagantly gifted and creative vocalists will have occasion to rifle through each others musical wardrobe, borrowing or stealing an idea or two.
Incidentally, Lipnik resumes her Pangea reign of weekly Sunday appearances after a short break on Sunday September 18. With her carnival-psychedelic performances, multi-octave voice (which Stephen Holden says is, in a word, phenomenal) and Cassandra-like lyrics, this product of Coney Island has now established herself the über alles of alt cabaret. In July Downtown darling Joey Arias concluded a three-month extended run of Little Black Book with guest star Ben Allison on bass, which ran from May 16 to July 25.
Downtowns alternative supper-club Pangea fuses uptown sophistication with downtown experimentation to create an artistic environment all its own. The music charge for the Lipnik y Arias party-performance is $30. After a champagne reception in the showroom the party continues at the bar. Seating at Pangea is communal. Other guests may be seated at the table. Dinner and or drinks may be ordered during the show.
Please arrive one half hour prior to the show and allow additional time if you are planning to have a dinner.
Late arrivals will be seated at managements discretion.
