Join the Everett Philharmonic Orchestra for a delightful afternoon of Mozart on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 3-5 PM in the ideal chamber music setting of Everett's First Presbyterian Church.
Opening the afternoon's festivities will be Mozart's well known Overture to Idomeneo. It was with Idomeneo, Re Di Creta [Idomeneo, King of Crete] that Mozart made his boldest step into full maturity, creating an opera which, even viewed from the perspective of the great works of his last years, could be regarded as his grandest, most ambitious work for the stage.
Mozart's Flute Concerto in D Major is one of the cornerstones of repertory for flute and orchestra and will be brilliantly played by Janelle Janovich-Barrera. Janelle is Principal Flute of the Southern California Philharmonic and also Southern California Gospel Song Celebration Orchestra. She and her saxophonist husband form the ALLOY Wind Duo playing modern and experimental pieces. She is strong participant in music education and currently is president of the Los Angeles Flute Guild.
The Linz Symphony, which opens the series of Mozarts five great final symphonies, written in four days, however, nothing in the music suggests the haste of its conception. In fact, the opening barsthe first slow introduction in Mozart's symphoniesgive the opposite impression: of deliberate, carefully considered music, more deeply serious than customary to open a symphony. The ensuing Allegro Spiritoso is large and ideally proportioned.
Your concert experience will continue with an opportunity to meet the musicians at a reception in the adjoining social hall.
Seating is limited, so don't wait to sign up for this one!
