The Persistence of Memory, as well as being the title of Salvador Dalís famous melting-clocks painting, is a primary feature of the human condition. Memories are the roots of our unquenchable compulsion to tell the story of us.
This concert explores musical representations of memory. We go back to childhood in Ravels Ma Mère L'Oye (Mother Goose Suite). This charming collection for piano 4-hands brings to life iconic scenes from childrens tales.
Debussys Ariettes oubliées (Forgotten Songs) are settings of bittersweet poems by Paul Verlaine. This song cycle, firmly rooted in Debussys tasteful brand of Romanticism, features soprano C.A. Jordan.
La muerta, a new piece by concert director Chris Pratorius-Gómez, is based on a poem by Pablo Neruda. Neruda wrote this as a thought experiment, imagining what it would be like if his beloved was dead, if she was only a memory. Tenor Andrew Carter is featured in this world premiere performance.
Works by French composer Reynaldo Hahn, Spanish composer Enriquez Valderrábano, and another by Pratorius-Gómez, round out what is sure to be a memorable, clock-melting concert. Dont forget your tickets!
