Wild Honey Presents Susan Cowsill & The Kennedys for the Autism Think Tank
Susan Cowsill first entered the pop-culture consciousness at the age of eight, as the youngest member of the 60s musical family the Cowsills, who graced the AM airwaves with such enduring pop hits as Hair and The Rain, the Park and Other Things, and who were the real-life inspiration for TVs Partridge Family. In adulthood, shes emerged as a singer-songwriter of singular emotional insight and musical resonance, first as a key member of beloved alt-roots-pop supergroup the Continental Drifters and more recently on her widely acclaimed second solo album Lighthouse. Rolling Stones David Fricke described Lighthouse as the hardy, heartbreaking sound of a woman in the prime of her singing and songwriting life, while The Huffington Post noted, Every song is a highlight This work of art is akin to musical cinema. Lighthouses soulful, personally-charged songcraft reflects the artists experiences during a wrenching period which saw Cowsill dealing with the deaths of her brothers Billy and Barry, and the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, which claimed most of her and her familys material possessions and temporarily displaced them from Susans adopted hometown of New Orleans. The album reflects the hard-won lessons of Cowsills experiences, while maintaining the unmistakable sense of optimism and spirituality thats always been at the heart of her work. Lighthouse also features guest appearances by longtime friend and admirer Jackson Browne, as well as Susans brothers Bob, Paul and John Cowsill, her sister-in-law (and Bangles/Continental Drifters member) Vicki Peterson, and renowned session guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who began his career playing with the Cowsills in the 1960s. In addition to being the youngest artist to ever score a Billboard hit single, Susan Cowsill has also lent her voice to albums by Dwight Twilley, Giant Sand, the Smithereens, Carlene Carter, Nanci Griffith, Redd Kross, Jules Shear and Hootie and the Blowfish. She was the first artist to cover a song by future cult legend and current comeback star Sixto Rodriguez, releasing her version of his Think of You as a solo single on Warner Bros. Records in 1977. She also recently teamed with fellow troubadours Jon Dee Graham and Freedy Johnston as the Hobart Brothers & Lil Sis Hobart on the critically lauded album At Least We Have Each Other. The songs on Lighthouse portray the loss of a world and a lifetime that no longer exists, Cowsill notes. It is about the uncertainty of the days, weeks and months that were ahead of us. And at the same time, it is the music of hope and faith and survival. The renewal of our city, our families and our souls. Going through Katrina was most certainly like experiencing a death. The time in between the storm and the making of Lighthouse was the grieving period, and the recording of the music was the funeral, laying it all to rest, saying goodbye, and starting over. So here we are, in our new world. And this world is filled with beauty and light and excitement, and the new-found knowledge that the present is really all that we have, because everything can change in the blink of an eye Hey, that sounds like a song comin ongotta go!
THE KENNEDYS:
Pete and Maura Kennedy, both East Coast natives, met in Austin, Texas, joined forces with Nanci Griffiths Blue Moon Orchestra for a couple of years, and set out on a road that, for two decades, has led them not only west but all over the US and the UK many times. This year, they celebrate their twentieth anniversary both as a band and a married couple. Rather than indulge in a nostalgic look backward, theyve taken Dylans dictum dont look back to heart; writing and recording forty new songs.
2015 sees a Maura solo CD, a Pete solo CD, and the release of West, an instant classic Kennedys duo set that seamlessly weaves their influences over the last two decades; Buddy Holly style roots, the tuneful cadences of the Everly Brothers, and the ringing 12-string jangle of the early Byrds, interspersed with darker moments that recall British folk rock a la Fairport Convention.
Ultimately, Pete and Maura knit these disparate threads into a coat of many colors that sounds like a best of The Kennedys, but is in reality an all-new collection of songs. The road west is central to the American mythos; its the search for musical roots and the fulfillment of a personal American dream that takes shape in songs. Two decades on, The Kennedys are hitting a songwriting high point, and from that point they follow the well-worn American path West.

Wild Honey Foundation:
While actively supporting various charitable causes, the non-profit Wild Honey Foundation seeks to pass on the passion, creativity, and idealism found in rock, R&B, folk, and pop music to future generations through cultural events of all types. Life-long music fans Paul Rock, David Jenkins, and Andrew Sandoval formed the foundation in the wake of a wildly inspiring 1993 Beach Boys tribute party in Paul Rocks L.A. living room. A year later, at the 200-seat Morgan-Wixson Theater in Santa Monica, Wild Honeys benefit/tribute to Brian Wilson featured performances by the iconic Beach Boy and Big Star founder Alex Chilton. A few months later, a similar Kinks event featured a guest set by Kinks co-founder Dave Davies. From 1994-2003, Wild Honey produced benefit/tributes to the Beach Boys Pet Sounds and Friends LPs, the Hollies, the Everly Brothers, Harry Nilsson, Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, and Elvis Costello.
After a ten-year hiatus, Wild Honey returned in 2013 with a Beatles Rubber Soul/Sgt. Pepper's event at the 360-seat El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood to help Rocks son participate in the Autism Think Tank. Building on that success, Wild Honey delivered a sold-out Big Star 3rd Live event as well as the Beatles Revolver/Abbey Road and White Album shows in 2014 and 2015 for the Autism Think Tank at much larger venues (the Wilshire Ebell and Alex theaters). Wild Honeys 2014, six-show Autism Think Tank backyard series at Paul Rock's Eagle Rock home featured Al Stewart, Psycho Sisters Vicki Peterson and Susan Cowsill, Lawrence Juber, the Irish band Pugwash, the Muffs, P.F. Sloan, Christine Collister, and others. Wild Honey shows have raised funds and awareness for the Autism Think Tank, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, the Childrens Music Fund, Habitat for Humanity, the Liberty Hill Foundation, USC Norris Cancer Center, and the Coalition to End Gun Violence.
