ArtCrawl Harlem Connecting the dots from Harlem to Newark.
WHAT:  ArtCrawl Harlem's Summer Gallery Tour; showcasing Romare Bearden Southern Recollections exhibition and local galleries featuring Norman Lewis, and other Newark fine artists. We have 3 power house artist that have roots in Harlem:

Romare Bearden- is widely considered to be one of America's most inventive and important artists. Born in Charlotte, NC, Bearden grew up in a middle-class African American family that moved in 1914 to the Harlem neighborhood

Norman Lewis-  the first major African-American member of the art movement known as Abstract Expressionism. Lewis was born in New York City on July 23, 1909, to Bermudian-American parents, but he was raised mostly by an Armenian-born clothing shop owner in New York's neighborhood of Harlem.

Willie Cole- a much younger and still living artist. Willie Cole was born in New Jersey in 1955.  In 1976, he received a BFA from The School of Visual Arts in NYC and later studied at The Art Students League in NYC.  Cole was an artist-in-residency between 1988 and 1989, at The Studio Museum in Harlem.
