Antipodes
An elaborate production of tightly synced live music, video projection, and acting, Antipodes depicts a romance between an American man and a Chinese woman, two people from figurative antipodesopposite points of the globe. The young couple interact through a small and simple language and seem to transcend typical relationship obstacles, but nevertheless have a growing awareness that their deliriously sweet dream cannot last. Thematic vignettes and songs are interwoven throughout the story to illustrate the settinga place (here?) and time (now?) where people (we?) face the possibility that everything from a stable self to a basic orientation of up and down has been deconstructed. The actors are joined on stage by Oakland-based experimental rock trio, Half of Half.
