Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present... Comedy Returns to El Rio!
Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, now in its 8th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.
This month features: Betsy Salkind, Richard Sarvate, Priyanka Wali, Nate Blanchard, and Lisa Geduldig.
Betsy Salkind was a staff writer for Roseanne and Saturday Night Special and is author of "More Than Once Upon A Time" and "Betsy's Sunday School Bible Classics," which was a USA Book Awards finalist (in the humor category). The LA-based comic also writes for the blog "Ethel's Law" and contributed to the anthology "No Kidding: Women Writers on Bypassing Parenthood." Best known as Squirrel Lady because of her squirrel imitation, Betsy has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Last Comic Standing, Girls Night Out, and Fierce Funny Women on Showtime. Most recently, Betsy appeared as a toothless villager in the Lady Parts Justice Leagues Shame of Thrones." The Boston Globe said, "There are countless ways to make someone laugh, and Betsy Salkind knows most of them. Want sarcastic wit? Political humor? Or maybe just a good animal mime? Salkind can pull all that off and more. www.betsysalkind.com
Richard Sarvate is a San Francisco based comedian with an alternative sense of humor. He is Indian, though his last name was butchered during an immigration debacle. Richard is a programmer by day and also a programmer by night. But he also finds time to talk about weird stuff on stages. His act consists of quirky observations, impressions, and surreal one-man sketches. His jokes range from silly imaginings about a taqueria that serves fortune churros to deep and introspective subjects like his mothers schizophrenia. He has opened for Roseanne Barr, performed at the prestigious SF Sketchfest, and recently completed a 19-show comedy tour of India. www.rsarvate.com
Priyanka Wali is a stand up comedian by night and a doctor by day. She performs throughout California including corporate gigs, casinos, and comedy clubs. She has been featured in Women's Health Magazine, The Today Show, Uproxx.com and Cosmopolitan.com. She truly believes laughter is the best medicine but likes to cover her bases as a board-certified practicing physician in Internal Medicine too. www.priyankawali.com
Nate Blanchard started his comedy career in San Francisco at the tender age of 19. After appearing at the Punchline, Harvey's, and two SF Pride events, the siren sounds of cheap rent, smoky bars, and an emerging international comedy scene drew him to Berlin in 2010, where he further evolved his own brand of blunt, brazen comedy. Animating his wayward life, glamorous misadventures, and queer sensibilities, hes like a virgin... touched for the 53rd time. He starred in the viral YouTube video, Sh*t Expat Berliners Say, has toured throughout Europe, and produced his own show, The Neukölln Confessional, for the German television channel, ALEX. He currently lives in Oakland and is probably chatting with your man on Grindr.
Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy (now in its 24th year); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion. She moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
