Sierra Hull and Highway 111
Alison Krauss invited eleven-year-old Sierra Hull to play the Grand Ole Opry; Rounder Records was interested by the time Sierra was 12. But despite the temptation to pursue an international touring career as a teen, Sierra made the decision to earn a degree at Berklee College of Music. Now a fully fledged musician, Sierra is a virtuoso mandolin player and tender, wistful vocalist who impresses with her inventive playing and broad stylistic range. From boundary-hopping newgrass instrumentals to pop-flavored ballads to playful bluegrass numbers, Sierra's blend of originals and classics has won her prestigious gigs at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the National Prayer Breakfast. The International Bluegrass Music Association nominated her for Emerging Artist of the Year and Mandolin Player of the Year on the strength of her latest CD, Daybreak (Rounder). Sierra is backed tonight by an awesome band, featuring Jacob Eller on upright bass, Zach Gilmer on banjo and guitar, and fiddler Christian Ward.
