A Terrifyingly Good Time: An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe
The boundaries which divide life from death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe, January 19, 1809 October 7, 1849, was an American writer, editor, and literary critic, best known for haunting and mysterious tales. When hearing the name "Poe", one will usually think of the famous narrative poem, "The Raven" (published in 1845), and the dark images that work conjures. Join us on this October evening, as we read aloud the works of Edgar Allan Poe in celebration of Halloween. The historic Smyrna Opera House was built just 20 years after the year of Poe's death, the ambiance of the building creating a perfect setting with which to hear the tales of Poe. A cash bar will be available as well as complimentary refreshments generously provided by the Smyrna Opera House Guild. Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for SOH members, senior citizens, and military, and $5 for children under 12. Due to the nature of some of the stories, this event is not recommended for children under 10.
Program begins at 7:30pm. Doors will open at 6:45pm. **This event will serve as a fundraiser for the Smyrna-Clayton Heritage Association John W. Dickinson Memorial Scholarship fund.** Every year we award a Smyrna High School student the John W. Dickinson Memorial Scholarship for exceptional performance in one of the following fields: -Creative Writing -Illustration/Graphic Design -Music -Drama -Visual Arts
