Join us for an amazing evening of reggae at The Mateel Community Center September 27th.
Sly and Robbie are a prolific Jamaican rhythm section and production duo, associated primarily with the reggae and dub genres. Drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robbie Shakespeare teamed up in the mid-1970s after establishing themselves separately in Jamaica as professional musicians. Sly and Robbie are estimated to have played on or produced 200,000 recordings, many of them on their own label, Taxi Records.
Prezident Brown (Fitz Cotterell) was born in the hills of Clarendon, Jamaica. His mother called him Junior Ranking because he would grab the microphone and chant at schoolyard and country dances. He was first known as Slim Brown because of his resemblance to and similar DJ style to his mentor, U Brown. The most formative influence on Prezident Brown was producer and sound system operator Jack Ruby. Ruby saw something special in young Slim Brown; he took Slim Brown under his wing, re-named him Prezident Brown and appointed him resident M.C. of his Hi-Power Sound System, traveling worldwide.
Since the beginning, Guerrilla Takeover (which is based out of Mendocino County, Nor-Cal) has alway's been focused on bringing the best of current and past Reggae/Dancehall hit's from the charts and the deep vault's to the Massive. Our focus has alway's been collecting Custom Dubplates, making Remixes and bringing Carribean Music to Northern California in an Original Fashion with a large, quality Soundsystem. Guerrilla Takeover was first established around 2004 when Dj Octagon purchased his first set of Turntables along with a small sound system and started getting hired around Mendocino County. Later that year the sound saw the addition of C-Money (Octagon's cousin by Blood) and they started off with a bang cutting Dubplates from artists like Richie Spice, Johhny Osbourne, Vybz Kartel, Wayne Smith, and Bounty Killer. Among others they still wanted to spread the local Northern California Vibe and represent their sound with Dubplates by artists like Moese Angel-(RIP), Ishi Due and The High-Grade All-Stars. They have continually put out mix tapes that never faulted for over a decade, alway's gaining love and respect from Reggae and Dancehall fans from around the globe.
