Pizza Man pizza party at Boswell, with Jennifer Niven and Kathleen Glasgow
We're hosting a pizza party for Jennifer Niven, author of "All the Bright Places" and the new novel, "Holding Up the Universe," and Kathleen Glasgow, whose debut YA novel is "Girl in Pieces." Our event is free but we'd love for you to register. Pizza will be provided by Milwaukee's Pizza Man!
Here's a little more about Jennifer Niven's latest. Everyone thinks they know Libby Strout, the girl once dubbed Americas Fattest Teen. But no ones taken the time to look past her weight to get to know who she really is. Following her moms death, shes been picking up the pieces in the privacy of her home, dealing with her heartbroken father and her own grief. Now, Libbys ready: for high school, for new friends, for love, and for every possibility life has to offer. In that moment, I know the part I want to play here at MVB High. I want to be the girl who can do anything.
Everyone thinks they know Jack Masselin, too. Yes, hes got swagger, but hes also mastered the impossible art of giving people what they want, of fitting in. What no one knows is that Jack has a newly acquired secret: he cant recognize faces. Even his own brothers are strangers to him. Hes the guy who can re-engineer and rebuild anything in new and bad-ass ways, but he cant understand whats going on with the inner workings of his brain. So he tells himself to play it cool: Be charming. Be hilarious. Dont get too close to anyone.
And here's a bit about Kathleen Glasgow's "Girl in Pieces." Charlotte Davis is in pieces. At seventeen shes already lost more than most people do in a lifetime. But shes learned how to forget. The broken glass washes away the sorrow until there is nothing but calm. You dont have to think about your father and the river. Your best friend, who is gone forever. Or your mother, who has nothing left to give you. Every new scar hardens Charlies heart just a little more, yet it still hurts so much. It hurts enough to not care anymore, which is sometimes what has to happen before you can find your way back from the edge.
"Girl in Pieces" is a deeply moving portrait of a girl in a world that owes her nothing, and has taken so much, and the journey she undergoes to put herself back together. Kathleen Glasgows debut is heartbreakingly real and unflinchingly honest. Its a story you wont be able to look away from.
Help spread the word about this great event! And yes, you can bring your copy of "All the Bright Places" from home to get signed.
