Moon Darling + Spirit Award
Doors 730 Show 8 All Ages
Moon Darling skirts the line between late-60s, Nuggets psychedelic riffs and modern, Kevin Parker-inspired synth pop. After six years playing in a punk band, Michael Escobar was burnt out and decided to shift his focus in an entirely different direction. True to troubadour fashion, he climbed in his van and set out across the United States, writing new material and busking along the way. Half a year later - the adventure ending with his van bursting into flames somewhere in No Man's Land, Texas - Escobar hitchhiked back to the Pacific Northwest, where he would begin recording the songs from his journey.
This week, Seattle Psych-pop band SPIRIT AWARD will released their first single from an upcoming LP, 'Las Vegas'. Spirit Award is Daniel Lyon (ex-Pomegranates) Chris Moore, and Terence Ankeny (Zoolab). 'Las Vegas' centers around seeing a population of controlling, misogynistic men who have no emotional intelligence. "You are like every man before me, never speaking before your tongue can sleep", calls for men to fight the urge of animal instincts, and choose think before acting or speaking. "This was written in response to seeing so many women (and men) in poor relationships where they feel powerless, and diminished as human beings" says Daniel.
