The Spurt of Blood
The Spurt of Blood; To Have Done With The Judgment Of God. The Boston Experimental Theatre Company (BETC) is presenting a night of experimental videos, live music, art installations, live painting, and experimental theatre all influenced by the writings of Mr. Antonin Artaud at Machine Nightclub. Bar and art exhibition will be open at 7pm, and the Theatre Production starts at 7:30pm.
BETC's new production is a long-term workshop studying the theatre of Antonin Artaud and Jerzy Grotowski in rehearsals and public performances. In our new production we are collaborating with visual artist Philippe Lejeune and his Glass Project, musician Phil Mantis and lighting designer Sean Nolan.
The Spurt of Blood project results from a series of exercises; we create an environment in the rehearsal room that encourages actors, designers and musicians to discover the relationships between their bodies, their imaginations, space, light, sound and most importantly the others. Through this process actors explore ideas and emotions and allow relationships to grow. The hope is to develop the show organically from these intimate and intense atmosphere.
For these performances we are adapting Antonin Artaud's plays The Spurt of Blood and To Have Done With the Judgement of God. Identity, self image, love, and their relationships with sex, food and religions will be explored in this unique nightclub venue. In our space at Machine Nightclub the house (and the bar), will open at 7:00 pm. Beginning at 7 pm the audience is invited to explore the Glass Project for themselves, and BETC will follow with its own exploration using the same sculptures and Artaud's text and writing at 7:30pm.
