Do you have a powerful, or even secret story that you want to write?
How do you communicate strong and even risky personal experiences so they are accessible to the reader? This workshop will explore the use of voice, dialogue, and scene to make deeper statements about history, social conventions, human complexity, and ironies. Texts examined for this workshop will include excerpts from award winning memoirs by Lucy Grealy, Eula Biss, Audrey Lorde, and Kao Kalia Yang. We will then practice what is observed by using their writing techniques as prompts to tell our own stories.
