Introduction to Ka-Zimba
This 6 week introduction course aims at enhancing the creative potential, self-confidence and the self-esteem of each participant. The roots of these classes stem from our deep connection to African/Caribbean/Moorish culture and the wonders of nature. We explore the primary movements and instincts of humans and animals alike and incorporate this with live African drumming and percussion. Participants are taught both simple and complex movements, from self-defence moves to Zulu Warrior steps and Gum Boot dancing.
Ka-Zimba Ngoma enhances many levels of individual and group communication, facilitating lifelong learning and self-development. This class is not simply intended for entertainment or exhibition, but more so as a tool for self-transformation: an alternative and efficient means of keeping emotionally/spiritually aware, and mentally and physically fit.
Ka-Zimba Ngoma and its Ijakadi Griot Society have been in existence in the UK for over 40 years, working locally and internationally with a vast array of peoples and groups from across the Global community.
The class is open to adults as well as young people between 11-16yrs with parental induction.
It is suitable for all fitness levels, though if you have a specific injury or concern - do contact the instructor Asafo Gyata via email.
There are limited places on this course and pre-booking is highly recommended. As with all CoResist events, there are bursary places and young person (under 18) discounts available to ensure that no-one is financially excluded.
